. Aishwarya RaiBollywood Actress and Model Aishwarya Rai was born in Manglore, Karnataka to the family of Bunt Community of Tulunadu on 1st November. Aishwarya’s father is marine biologist Krishnaraj Rai and her mother Brindya Rai is writer. And her elder brother Aditya Rai is engineer in merchant navy and the producer of movie Dil Ka Rishta. She won Miss India and Miss World Contest of 1994. She did her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir Secondary School. She did her first modeling for Camlin Pencil when she was in ninth standard. After completing graduation from school Aishwarya Rai joined Jai Hind College for a year and later passed high school from DG Ruparel College. While she was studying in Jai Hindi her English professor took some photographs which were later published in Fashion  Magazine after that these pictures were spotted by advertising agencies therefore she got number of commercial adds.  After dropping an idea of continuing her career in medicine she enrolled herself for a course of Architecture at Raheja College of Arts, though eventually she dropped out of college for entering into modeling career.

Aishwarya Rai made her acting debut in 1997 acting Tamil movie Iruva directed by Mani Ratnam this movie was based on semi-biographical political drama this movie received best film award at the Belgrade International Film Festival. Same year she was casted in Hindi movie Aur Pyar Ho Gaya in this movie she acted alongside Bobby Deol though movie got flopped. In 1998 Aishwarya rai was casted in big budget Tamil Romantic Drama Jeans and this movie was directed by S. Shankar and her co-stars were Prashanth and Nassar in this movie Aishwarya rai played a role of young woman who travels to USA to seek medical supervision for her ailing grandmother. This movie received commercial success and her dancing skills were praised by audience. Then she acted in movie Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999 this movie was directed by Rishi Kapoor unfortunately this movie came out as floop.

Aishwarya Rai got big success in her next movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam this movie was based on Bengali novel Na Hanayte and this movie was directed by Sanjay Leela Bansali in this movie her co-star were Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. In this movie she played a role of Gujarati women who is forced to enter into wedlock as she is in love with another man. This movie did great business at box-office and for her role in this movie she received Filmfare Award for Best Actress.  Aishwarya Rai got next leading role in move Taal and this movie was directed by Subhash Ghai she acted alongside Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri and Alok Nath  this movie received moderate domestic success though this movie was first Indian film to feature in the top twenty listing at the American box-office. For this  Aishwarya received a second Best Actress nomination that year at the Filmfare Awards ceremony.

Aishwarya Rai was next seen in movie Josh in this she acted alongside Shahrukh Khan and Chandrachur Singh in this movie she played a role of Shirley Dias, the sister of Khan’s character who falls in love with his arch enemy’s brother played by  Chandrachur Singh. Though the  casting of Rai as Khan’s sister was considered an unusual pairing at the time however director of movie Mansoor Khan said it was perfect pairing.  In spite of earning mixed appraise from film critics, Josh emerged as a average commercial success. In her next movie Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai she played a role of rape victim and this movie was directed by Satish Kaushik. In this movie her co-stars were Anil Kapoor and  Sonali Bendre this movie was well received by critics.  For this movie she received her third Best Actress nomination at Filmfare. Her next movie Dhai Akshar Prem ke got flopped. Then Aishwarya was casted in movie Mohabbatein  in this movie she played a role of Megha Shankar, the daughter of  Amitab Bachchan’s  who commits suicide after a failed romance with one of her father’s students. Though this movie received mixed reviews from film critics, still this movie managed to achieve second highest grossing movie of the year. Same year she was seen alongside Govida and Jackie Shroff in romantic comedy Albela.

Aishwarya rai  continued to rise in 2002, once again  working with Sajay Leela Bhansali in Devdas and this movie came out to be most successful film in Bollywood history. Therefore this movie became the first Bollywood movie to ever receive a special screening at that year’s Cannes Film Festival and broke box-office records in India and the United States.

Aishwarya Rai received more exciting chances in 2003 as she became very first Indian actress to become a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. She is also the latest member of the elite L’Oreal Dream Team, joining renowned international beauties  Catherine Deneuve and Andie MacDowell as L’Oreal’s international ambassador. Aishwarya styled the covers of India Today and the prestigious TIME Magazine, both the magazine listed her  on their list of the “100 Most Influential People in the World Today”

Aishwarya was seen in leading role in her first English movie Bride & Prejudice which was Directed by Gurinde Chadha. On the other hand Aishwarya Rai is first Indian female to be immortalize in wax at the world-famous Madame Tussaud’s wax museum in London. She was also seen in _Mistress of Spices (2007).

Following a unpleasant relationship with actor Salman Khan she got married to actor Abhishek Bachchan in 2007. From her wedlock she gave  birth to a baby girl on 16 November 2011. Her daughter became quite popular by the name of “Beti B” which was christened by the fans and the media, since the couple took over four months to name their daughter. The baby girl was finally named as Aaradhya Bachchan in March 2012.

Aishwarya Rai featured in the 2006 blockbuster thriller movie Dhoom 2, then she was seen in  2008 historical romantic movie Jodhaa Akbar, in  2010 she acted in  science fiction film Enthiran. She earned wide critical acclaim for her work in movie Guzaarish directed by Bhansali’s in 2010.

Aishwarya Rai also work as brand ambassador for several charity organisations and campaigns; she is a Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). She received  Padma Shri award from  by the Government of India in 2009, and the Ordre des Arts et des Letters by the Government of France in 2012. In 2009 she made appearances on Martha Stewart’s show Martha and on the The Tyra Banks Show same year Forbes ranked Rai  387th out of 1,411 actors on their list of the most earnable stars in Hollywood. Rai became  first Indian celebrity who appeared in The Oprah Winfrey Show twice. Rai ranked 2nd in The Times of India’s 50 most desirable women of 2010 and ranked 9th for 2011.
